This week, we’ve put together a few side dishes that pair perfectly with our new Sunpork Peri Peri Schnitzel. These delicious dishes help complement the mildly spicy flavour of the Peri Peri, and are a great addition for a well-balanced meal!
1. Rice and Minted Yoghurt
Rice is often a perfect accompanying ingredient to any dish, and the same applies with our Sunpork Peri Peri Schnitzels.
To prepare, cook ½ cup white rice as per pack instructions, then mix through 1 tbsp. mayonnaise, and 2 tbsp. natural yoghurt. Add some chopped fresh mint and parsley and stir to combine.
The flavours of this rice will perfectly complement your meal – with a spicy kick from the Peri Peri, and a milder, soothing flavour from the mint and yoghurt in the rice.
2. Fresh Tomato and Cucumber Salad
This is a really simple and refreshing side that is quick and easy to prepare, and perfect when combined with our Sunpork Peri Peri Schnitzel.
Simply dice 1 tomato and 1 cucumber into small cubes. Squeeze a little lemon juice over the top and season with salt and pepper. Add some chopped parsley and a dash of olive oil and toss to combine.
The citrus zing complements the Peri Peri flavours perfectly for a well-balanced, quick and healthy meal.
3. Avocado Salsa
This refreshing avocado salsa works really well with the mild spice of Sunpork’s new Peri Peri Schnitzels.
Dice 1 avocado and 1 tomato into small cubes. Place into a bowl and add olive oil, lemon juice or white wine vinegar and a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. Top with coarsely chopped parsley and coriander leaves.
Lightly toss all of the ingredients to mix. Avoid vigorous shaking so the avocado keeps its shape!
TIP: Add some finely diced red onion to the salsa for a bit of extra punch
4. Tropical Coleslaw
It’s hard to go past that traditional favourite: the classic coleslaw. The crunchy, refreshing flavours are a great way to help cleanse your palate when eating spicy food, and are a perfect accompaniment to pork. While the ingredients can change depending on what you like most, some common options are red cabbage, carrots, onion and mayonnaise.

- ½ (500g) small red cabbage, shredded
- 2 medium carrots, peeled, grated
- 1 small brown onion, halved, thinly sliced
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
Simply place all ingredients in a bowl and toss to combine. Add some pineapple pieces to give it a tropical twist! You can serve Sunpork’s Schnitzels every night with sides that taste this good!
5. Beetroot and Rocket Salad with Crumbled Feta
Last but not least, we have a very healthy beetroot and rocket salad with chickpeas and feta cheese.
Grate or finely slice 1 fresh beetroot (use canned beetroot, chopped into cubes if you prefer) and place in a bowl with 2 cups rocket and 1 can (drained) chickpeas.
For the dressing, squeeze ½ lemon over the salad and add salt and pepper to taste. Finally, add 1 tsp. of honey to balance the acidity and toss through to combine. Sprinkle some optional coarsely chopped parsley on top, and crumble a little feta over the dish to finish.
This simple salad is sure to impress and is quick, easy and delicious when paired with Sunpork’s Peri Peri or Lightly Seasoned Schnitzels.
